With a long trip, something always gets you to stop—and for us, it was a bathroom break.

Never thought I’d get a history lesson at a Dollar General, but that’s exactly what happened. The gentleman in the store told us all about Brown’s Trial, and he was full of knowledge—more than willing to share every detail.

That’s the thing about small towns—everywhere I go, someone has a story to tell. A piece of history, a local legend, something real and rooted. It felt like each person was passing down a piece of their home.

Harpers Ferry is famous for being the site of John Brown's Raid in 1859, which led to Brown's trial and execution for treason, murder, and inciting a slave insurrection. The raid and subsequent trial were major events leading up to the Civil War.
